Beamish
We went back to Beamish to see it with all the nice Christmas lights and some of the things we didn’t see last time. But most importantly because we wanted to win giant Flopsy and Mopsy soft toys at one of the fairground games. But the silly people that work there had replaced them with gingerbread men toys for Christmas!
Christmas in Saltburn-By-The-Sea
We stayed at Aunty Kate and Uncle Kevin’s place for Christmas, and we decorated the loft in the roof with Christmas decorations. The loft is where me and Anna slept. The best thing about staying there was being able to wake up and cuddle Jaffa the dog. Before Christmas we went to a Pantomime. It was funny because we got a shout-out (“to the Jacks family, who are here from New Zealand!”) and they sang Espresso by Sabrina Carpenter. We made gingerbread reindeer, and left some out for Santa along with milk and carrots. On Christmas day we woke up had a continental breakfast of fruit salad, croissants, pain au chocolat and pancakes. Then we opened presents and had Christmas dinner. I made the ambrosia with Aunty Kate for dessert. Then we watched Home Alone 2, the new Wallace and Grommit and the Gavin and Stacy finale, then went to bed.
Edinburgh
Hogmanay in Kippen
It was fun in Kippen because we got to see the Chambos. We did some sledging on a frosty hill near the yellow digger and had NYE parties at the Chambos’ neighbours' and at the Reading Rooms. At midnight the adults drank whisky and we sang Auld Lang Syne, and went outside to see the fireworks from the Cross Keys pub next door. On New Year’s day we went to Fraser’s grandparents’ and played with Connie the dog. We got to do the Jambos awards at the Reading Rooms (Jacks + Chambos = Jambos). It’s an award ceremony in which we have random awards categories and choose the winners by a poll. For example, “best music taste” or “best at beach”. The theme was airlines and we called it Jambos Awards Airlines. We made a safety briefing video and we said that oxygen masks would fall down because of radioactive poisoning if Dad farted. We also served refreshments to our passengers.
Final Days
After Kippen we went back to Saltburn-By-The-Sea for Uncle Kevin’s surprise 70th birthday party. To get him to the venue Aunty Kate told him that Dad was shouting us all a dinner out, and Dad said he had never seen Uncle Kevin move so fast. It snowed the next day and we had a snowball fight. Then we had one last night in London with another surprise — Mum and Dad had booked us a dinner at the Black Dog pub which Taylor Swift wrote a song about! It was really yummy. Then we flew home to NZ the next day.
